Frequently Asked Questions
Are Airbrushed Tattoos safe?
Absolutely! TatAtomic currently uses ink from European Body Art - non-allergenic ink made with 100% FDA approved ingredients - for our tattoos. The ink is gently applied to the skin surface with an airbrush, and dries almost instantly. In 30 minutes, the new design is water-resistant, but can easily be removed at anytime with alcohol (for airbrush tattoos) or soap and warm water.
For face painting, we use Graftobian F/X Aire, a hybrid makeup using finely ground pigments to achieve the best coverage possible. What's a hybrid makeup? It is a mainly water-based fluid with a small amount of alcohol - just enough to dissolve the alcohol soluble copolymer that helps the pigments stick to the skin. This is also what helps make our face painting designs water resistant and long lasting, while still ensuring they are easily removed at the end of the day! Graftobian F/X Aire is a professional grade airbrush makeup that has been used in Hollywood and other professional settings for many years. Your face painting design is easily removed at any time with soap and warm water.
How long will my designs last?
TATs last anywhere from a few days up to a week, depending on your skin type, TAT location, and level of care. If you have very oily skin, your TAT may only last a few days. If your TAT is located in an area prone to clothing contact or friction - face/neck, shoulder blade, etc - you may notice that your TAT starts to rub off after a few days. Also, if you don't care for your TAT every day, or if you use lotions/oils, your TAT will not last as long as it could with proper care.
Face painting designs last up to 14 hours. Care should be taken not to rub the face with towels, napkins, sleeves, etc. Gently pat dry!
Ok, what IS proper care of an Airbrushed Tattoo?
- Do not rub or scrub your TAT.
- Do not shave where your TAT is located.
- Gently pat or air dry your TAT after bathing, swimming, or washing.
- Powder your TAT daily after bathing, or even several times a day. Dab or lightly brush powder - baby powder, cornstarch, or setting powder - on with a cotton ball or powder brush.
- Avoid lotions, creams, and oils.
- Avoid wearing tight-fitting clothing that might rub against your TAT.
How long does it take to get my design?
Generally, TATs can be applied in about 3 minutes, and face designs can be applied in 3-5 minutes. Extremely large or more intricate tattoo designs can take up to 5 minutes, while full face designs can take slightly longer. They dry virtually instantly, so once your design is done, you're free to go about your day! It's suggested you wait at least 30 minutes before participating in any water activities, to ensure best possible endurance of your design.
What kinds of designs do you offer?
With several hundred stencils to choose from, we offer TATs to suit anyone's taste! From tribal to trendy, kid's choice to retro, we've got something for almost everyone! We also have the ability to provide custom stencils for parties, schools, organizations, etc., with advance notice (additional charges apply, contact us for details!) If you're looking for a specific type, style, or design, please don't hesitate to ask! If we don't have it, we can probably get it.
Where can I put my design?
TATs can be put virtually anywhere! Arms, ankles, hands, legs, back, chest... the choice is yours! However, we reserve the right to refuse placement of tattoos on certain areas of the body that are considered private or sensitive. Our stencils for TATs can also be used on the face (with our gentle face painting makeup, of course!) so your options are almost limitless! Do keep in mind that placement of a TAT can determine how long it lasts - if you put your TAT on an area where you sweat excessively, have high body oil, apply lotion, or a place that gets rubbed by clothing, your design might not last as long as possible.
How do I arrange a party or event with you?
Contact us with date, location, event type, duration, and number of people expected to attend. Let us know if you have a theme for your event, or if you would like custom stencils, and if you want just tattooing, just face painting, or both. We will send you a quote, letting you know if we are available and what our costs will be. We will also provide you with suggestions for your event, like duration and design options - for instance, we can do about 15-20 TATs per hour, so an event with 100 people might need to reserve 4 hours in order to satisfy everyone! Contact us early so you can reserve your date - our calendar fills up quickly!
What are your rates? What else do I need to know to have you at my event?
We have a 2-hour minimum booking at a cost of $200 for one service (tattoos OR face painting) to help off-set the cost of travel and set-up. If you want both tattoos AND face painting, there will be an additional one-time $50 charge. Each additional hour is $80. We can set-up in an area as small as 4'x5', though we also have a 10'x10' canopy available for larger parties and events. If possible, we need a standard household electrical outlet within 6' of the work area, standard room-level lighting. If electricity cannot be provided, we can provide an alternate power source for an additional fee. We will provide an age-appropriate selection of designs, and we will apply as many designs as we can at no charge to your guests while we are there! All we ask is that each person receive one design at a time, so we can ensure all your guests have a chance to get their own. Other than that, each guest is allowed an unlimited number of designs!
